sample lesson/video
This video is a project I am personally very proud of. During my student teaching internship, we were learning about the characteristics of non-fiction texts. While comparing two books, one fiction, another non-fiction, but both about penguins, my students became fascinated by penguins and expressed their desire to learn more. With their interest in mind, I scrapped the rest of my lesson plans for the non-fiction unit, and created a new plan: to research penguins. Each student had the chance to share what they wanted to learn about penguins. I took this information and compiled a selection non-fiction books about penguins, in which we used to research the answer to the students' questions. The students then each created a single page to answer their specific question, and created a collaborative non-fiction book of their own. This video shares each of their pages, in which the student whom created the page reads their findings. This video was presented at Central Academy's school-wide "Celebration of Learning," and can now be found on the district website.
